One of the largest natural disasters floods in Tennessee history resulted from two days of torrential rains that came to Nashville on May 1, 2010. The video from ExpessionsByMisti below has some incredible pictures of the flood and the rescue efforts.
Some people lost their homes, some lost their businesses, some lost their jobs and some lost their lives in this tragedy. It was the flood of the century.
The
Grand Ole Opry,
the Opryland Hotel and the
Opry Mills Mall
suffered extensive damage. The Cumberland River came out of the banks into downtown Nashville flooding many of the businesses in the
Nashville entertainment district.
Residents and businesses in several other neighborhoods of Nashville were flooded by smaller rivers and creeks in the area. Interstates were covered with rising water. With all of this flooding you can see why it is called one of the largest natural disasters floods in Tennessee history.
What’s so amazing about Nashville is the volunteer spirit of the people that live here. This effort is not surprising to Tennesseans, because it is just a way of life here. When a neighbor, friend or stranger is in need, Tennesseans are the first to jump in and help. You can see that volunteer spirit in Nashville and middle Tennessee as volunteers help flood victims of the 2010 Nashville Flood.
Many Nashville residents, churches, radio stations, retailers, grocery stores, and restaurants have contributed to the aid of flood victims. There are a lot of country music stars that live in Nashville and they have been a tremendous help in having concert after concert to raise money for flood relief. Many of the stars homes were heavily damaged as well.
The City of Nashville also responded very well to this disaster. The employees deserve a big thanks for all of their hard work to keep the citizens of Nashville safe.
Nashville will recover from the flood because of the tremendous efforts of all the volunteers here in Tennessee.

Thankfully my own home was not damaged at all in the flood. I do know several people personally that lost the first floor of their homes and several more that lost vehicles or just a couple of rooms or just some minor damage.
It was sad to see all the damage caused by the flood. I am so thankful that none of my friends lost their lives in this flood. This natural disaster is one that I will never forget.
