The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere
African Elephants, Red Pandas, Eastern Box Turtles and more!
The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is your connection with the wild in Nashville. Zoos are
great places for kids
to visit because they are fascinated with animals. You will see numerous wild animals including African Elephants, Red Pandas, Eastern Box Turtles and many more when you visit the Zoo in Nashville.
A visit to the Zoo is one of the most
fun things to do in Nashville
because it provides hours of entertainment for both kids and adults. It is a great way to spend the day with your family and friends.
All the kids in my family that have been to the zoo say the Nashville Zoo is cool because it has the largest outdoor playground they have ever seen. They climbed on huge nets, stairs, tunnels, playground equipment, towers and more. It's like a giant McDonald's play land that's 100 times bigger. It's worth visiting the zoo for the playground alone. Your toddlers will love the Critter Corner! It's the petting zoo, my nieces and nephews had a ball petting all the animals. At the Wild Animal Carousel the kids can take ride on a giraffe, a giant anteater, and even a cheetah too at no extra charge. The Unseen New World is a neat exhibit with lots of snakes, fish, frogs and more. I have a tip for you. Plan to visit the Unseen New World exhibit in the afternoon because it is indoors and is nice and cool. It can get hot in the afternoons here in Nashville.
Walk back in time at the Grassmere Historic House and Farm. The barnyard is filled with animals that might have called it their home in the 1880s. Your kids will enjoy seeing all of the farm animals including: horses, sheep, chickens and cattle. The property still maintains the original historic plantation house. The sheep get sheared twice a year and the Grassmere barnyard on the historic farm. Check the Nashville Zoo website to see when they are going to be shearing the sheep. It is pretty cool to watch.
The Nashville Zoo also has daily activities including animal shows and keeper talks. These are interesting and educational. My 9 year old niece was fascinated at one of the keeper talk about giraffes. They showed her that only one vertebrae in the giraffe’s neck was as big as her head. The zoo is located six miles southeast of downtown Nashville so it is not far from other
Nashville tourist attractions.

Donna's Corner
I usually visit the zoo once or twice a year sometimes more. I have a lot of family come in from out of town and it is a fun place to go. The kids love it. I helped out as a volunteer with a fund raiser they had for diabetes last year. That was a lot of fun. One of the things I like about this zoo is that it is not very hilly, at least in my opinion. I had to update my comments here because I have had several people tell me that it is hilly and several other people tell me it isn't very hilly. There are some small hills. They are not steep and there are not that many of them. I guess you will just have to decide for yourself whether it is hilly or not. My advise is to just stroll around the zoo, take your time and enjoy your day at the Nashville Zoo.
