The Nashville Parthenon
A Replica of Greek Architecture
What is so special about the Nashville Parthenon? This is one of my favorite
Nashville tourist attractions
because the sight is just awsome. The building and the 42-foot statue of Athena are full scale replicas of the original Parthenon from ancient Greece. Just seeing the replica of the Greek architecture is worth the trip.

The Parthenon was built in 1897 for Tennessee’s Centennial Exposition. The plaster replicas used in the building are direct cast of the original sculptures of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos. The originals dating back to 438 B.C. are housed in the British Museum in London. The art museum is actually quite small and has a only a permanent collection of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artist. During the year youcan find a variety of art shows and temporary displays. The Nashville Parthenon sits in the center of Centennial Park. The park itselfis beautiful and is probably the most visited park in the city of Nashville. Be sure to walk the grounds of the park. If you have small children, bring some bread or crackers so that they can feed the ducks. Centennial Park often hold
festivals and fairs
at the park and they are a lot of fun. Visit the website at
www.nashville.gov/parthenon
for the events schedule. The museum is open year around Tuesday –Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. During the summer months June, July and August it is also open on Sundays from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The museum is closed on the following holidays:• July 4 • Labor Day • Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week • Christmas Eve • Christmas Day • New Years Day
This is a nice park and the structure of the Nashville Parthenon is a sight to see.
Donna's CornerI have been going to Centennial Park since my daughter was very young. We use to feed the ducks there, we have watched a local theater that plays there during the summer. My daughter was also a baton twirler at a parade that began there. Much later I trained there a lot for the Country Music Marathon. I only walked the half marathon but I am proud of my accomplishment. It was a lot of fun too. Danny and I went to the
Celebration of Cultures
this past summer.
