Horse Riding Games at Steeplechase
Let the horse riding games begin!
The Iroquois Steeplechase is one of the most fun
Nashville events
that you will ever attend.
You don't want to miss this horse racing event.
This video below is from 2007 but it is a great example of what you will see at Steeplechase.
This is not the typical horse race around the track. These thoroughbred horses and jockeys do a lot of fence jumping. It is a lot of fun to watch. Steeplechase has been taking place for 70 years now. It is actually a charity event to raise money for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
Every May this event comes around rain or shine. Most people just go to the general admission which is about $15 per person. This is one of the fun
things to do in Nashville with kids
and it is a great value. Kids under 12 are free.
There are spaces for tailgating but those are expensive, as in $550 to $600 per space and allows up to 8 people. Surprisingly the spaces do sell out very quickly.
Bring your picnic basket, your beverages, blankets or lawn chairs and prepare to have a great afternoon at the races. The Opening Ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m. and the first race begins at 1:00 p.m. There are 7 races in all and the last one ends at about 4:30 p.m. Everyone has to leave by dusk which is around 7:30 p.m.
I would recommend getting to the park no later than 11:00 a.m. so that you can get good place to park and to sit. Also it is best to
buy your tickets in advanced.
