Country Music Marathon

Last year there were more than 30,000 participants in this Nashville marathon. There is nothing like it.

It is one of my favorite festival and events.

You never know what or who you might see. Famous country music singers have been known to participate in the Country Music Marathon.

City and State officials also participate sometimes.

Participants and spectators will see lots of Nashville Tourist Attractions beginning at Centennial Park is and ends at LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans.

This marathon is a lot of fun. There are usually about 50 bands set up to play in some Nashville concerts for the marathoners and spectators.

What is so neat about this marathon is that almost anyone can participate. You might see a 90 year old person out that running the marathon. As you can see in the picture above many of the participants wear outrageous costumes.

The spectators are a lot of fun too. You will hear them cheering for people through the whole race.

I am proud to say that I walked the ½ marathon one year. One of my co-workers talked a group of us into walking the 1/2 marathon.

We began training in January. We walked 2 miles a day at work then on Saturdays we went to Centennial Park and walked 4 miles then and we added a mile a week until we got up to 11 miles.

Nashville is very hilly so we decided that we needed to train where there were some hills. Percy Werner Park was perfect for that.

It was our first marathon and we decided we wanted a name for our group. We called ourselves Southern Strollers. We bought tee shirts and had our name printed on them. That was a mistake. The name was great but the shirts were hot.

It was fun walking the marathon with friends but I probably won't do it again. I had to cancel two trips to visit my parents to train for the marathon. Training for the marathon was a time investment that I just don't want to do again.

I usually watch the marathon every year. It is so much fun.
