I recommend you that you visit their website to find where to park downtown. They can do a much better job than I can on telling you the best place to park. The website is simply www.parkitdowntown.com

Donna's Corner

My connection to Dolly Parton.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are summers visiting the lady who I thought of as my grandmother. I called her Mae. She lived in Sevierville Tennessee but she had a cabin and a shack in Pittman Center about 5 miles from Gatlinburg right on the Little Pigeon River. We had family reunions up there which was great but my parents would take us up there often to see Mae. Dolly Parton and Mae Ogle

My mother also thought of Mae like a mother to her. She was actually my mother's cousin. My mother lost her mother at age four and Mae helped my mother a lot when she was growing up.

In reality she wasn't my grandmother but she felt like one. She passed away a few years ago just one month shy of her 100th birthday.

Mae was also one of Dolly Parton's school teachers. She took Dolly to the Cas Walker Show in Knoxville which is where Dolly first appeared on television and got her start in country music.

This picture is of Dolly Parton and Anna Mae Ogle and others. Mae is the lady that is laughing in the blue dress. I do not know who the other ladies are.

My mother says that she thinks the picture was taken at the ceremony for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library which provides books for children from birth to age five.

I have never met Dolly but I would love to meet her or better yet I would love for my mother to meet her. I am sure she could tell us some things about Mae that we don't know.

Well that is my connection to Dolly Parton. I hope you enjoyed the story and your visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
