Bicentennial Mall
Tennessee History, fun and relaxation!
The Bicentennial Mall is just north of downtown Nashville. It is not a shopping mall. It is actually the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. There is a lot to see here, especially if you are interested in Tennessee history.
The State of Tennessee wanted to preserve the view of the State Capitol and commemorate Tennessee’s 200th birthday so they built a beautiful park to do it. One of the most popular
things to do in Nashville
during the summer months is the visiting the Fountain of Rivers portion of the park. It is considered one of Nashville's
great places for kids
in the summer because they get to splash around in the water fountains. There are about 20 picnic tables under the Railroad Trestle for parents to sit at to watch their children play. It is great, because it is shady under there. You could bring a picnic or you could go to the
Nashville Farmers Market
for lunch. It is right beside the park.
Every time I visit the this state park I see people sitting on benches reading or just enjoying the views. Many people like to read all the facts on the walls and monuments. It is an interesting way to learn about the history of Tennessee. If you wanted to you could get in a nice walk for exercise too. The walkways are great for that. This park is a great place to go just to relax and enjoy the scenery. The mall is located between James Robertson Parkway and Jefferson Street and 6th and 7th avenues. Parking is free along 6th and 7th avenue all the time. Along 6th avenue there are 2 state employee parking lots that can be used after 4:30 pm and on weekends for free. There is also a disabled parking lot dedicated to the Bicentennial Capitol Mall on Harrison Street. The park has restrooms at the railroad tresle. The park closes at dark. I am sure that you will enjoy your visit. Have fun.
Donna’s CornerAfter we left the Nashville Farmers Market, Danny and I took our nephew down there to play in the fountains one day.
He loved it. It was not too hot that day, but it was nice just to be able to sit at the picnic table and talk while we watched him play in the water. There were about 30 kids playing in the water that day. As usual my batteries went dead in the camera so I didn’t get a picture of him in the water on that day. I stopped by on another day to get a picture of the fountains. That is my nephew in the picture pointing at the globe.
