See Bluegrass Singers Perform Live. Visit Nashville!

If you like bluegrass music, Nashville is one of the best places to see live performances from some of the best bluegrass performers in the world. Nashville is known as Music City because there are all type of music performed and recorded here. Bluegrass is no exception.

Bluegrass music has been around for more than 100 years. It seemed to have started in the Applachlia Mountains in the eastern United States. Bluegrass Music is a blend of old time music and traditional music that has been influenced by English,Scottish,Irish and German immigrants. The typical bluegrass instruments are the fiddle, the banjo, the guitar, the mandolin and the upright bass. You will also hear the harmonica played in some of the music. The songs are about everyday life.

Great artist like Lester Flatts, Earl Scruggs and Bill Monroe, also known as the "Father of Bluegrass Music" began performing all over the country and made bluegrass what it is today. When you are in Nashville, you will be able hear bluegrass music performed by some of the popular performers like Allison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs. Lesser known artist who just love bluegrass music can be found in several places throughout Nashville. If you want to hear bluegrass music performed live in Nashville, here are some places to checkout.

The Station Inn regularly has bluegrass and roots music performed nightly. It is a great place to go if you like bluegrass. The food at this place is good too.

The Caney Fork Fish Camp is actually a nice restaurant in the Music Valley Area. The "Large Mouth Grass" performs live bluegrass music at the restaurant Thursday - Sunday nights. They move around the restaurant so no matter where you sit you will most likely get to see them perform a few songs.

During the months of June and July the Ryman Auditorium has a series called "Bluegrass Nights" on Thursday nights and Ricky Skaggs is the host. It is a lot of fun to watch Ricky Skaggs perform.

Grand Ole Opry does a lot of different types of music from the new to old time music, including bluegrass. Check their schedule frequently. You never know who will be performing.

Once a month, usually on Friday nights Warner Parks has a Full Moon Pickin Party These parties are a family friendly event and they are a lot of fun. You bring your lawn chair or a blanket. You can purchase food from the grill. Drinks are included in the price of about 15.00 per person. You sit under a full moon and listen to bluegrass til about 10:00 pm. You don't have to sit in your chair. You can walk right up to the performers and stand elbow to elbow with them while they are performing. This party is lots of fun.
